Quick Start

Download the installer for your computer from the Owlfy website. On a Mac, pick the right version for Apple silicon or Intel. For step-by-step instructions on each system, see Install, Update, and Uninstall.

The first time you open Owlfy, a short guide walks you through three steps:

  1. Sign in to your account.
  2. Grant permissions.
  3. Try it out: the guide has you actually use Voice Writing and Voice Shortcuts once.

Here’s what each permission is for:

PermissionUsed for
MicrophoneVoice Writing, recording, dictation
AccessibilityTyping into other apps, running shortcuts, reading selected text
Screen recordingLetting the AI understand your screen, recording computer audio
Full Disk Access (macOS)Letting the AI work with files in protected folders

You can check or grant permissions later in Settings → General → System permissions. On macOS, if a permission doesn’t seem to take effect, restart Owlfy.

By default, the mouse wheel button also works as the Voice Action key. You can change all of these in Settings → General.

  1. Open any app you can type in and click into a text box.
  2. Hold the Voice Writing key and say: “Let’s go over the plan tomorrow afternoon.”
  3. Let go. Your text appears.

You can also tap once to start and tap again to stop. More Voice Writing tips →

Hold the Voice Action key, say “open the browser”, and let go.

Then try this: select a paragraph, hold the Voice Action key, and say “summarize in three bullet points”. More things to try →

Open AI Agent, drag in a document, and type: “Summarize this and list anything I need to follow up on.” When it replies, you can keep going: “Turn that into a Word document.” New files appear in the Outputs panel at the top of the window.

Double-tap the Voice Writing key, choose Mic, say a few sentences, and save. Open Voice Notebook to see the text and the recording. About the Voice Notebook →
